Flow
nozzles, at high velocities, can handle approximately 60 percent greater liquid flow than orifice plates having the same pressure drop. Liquids with suspended solids can also be metered. However, use of the units is not recommended for highly viscous liquids or those containing large amounts of sticky solids.
Flow nozzles offer several advantages compared to orifice plates, they can handle about 60% more flow for the same operating differential and orifice pipe ratio and their pressure recovery is roughly 30% higher.
Furthermore, flow nozzles can stand higher fluid velocities and are better sukted for heavy duty applications since erosion and cavitation fenomens affect them to a lesser extent then orifice plates.
