PRESSURE REDUCERS AND FLOW CONTROLLERS

Square edge orifice plates can, be used as fixed pressure reducers. When used with gas or vapour, they can operate as now controllers if the permanent pressure loss is equal to or more than half the absolute inlet pressure.
In case of great pressure drops, multiple orifice reducers can be used in which the total pressure loss in divided into several stages lowering the velocity of discharge of the fluid. In this way the erosion of the restriction and the noise level are limited.

TYPE SELECTION

  • Union type: For small pipe sizes, union type restriction orifices are used. They consist of an orifice plate inserted between the two pieces of a union and held together with a union nut.
  • Flange type: for pipe sizes over 11/2"", flage type orifice plates are used. They consist of a common orifice plate held between two regular pipe flanges.
  • Core type: Consist of a long calibrated hole drilled into a solid core which is inserted in a pipe section with flanged or welding ends. This type is suitable for high temperatures and large pressure drops.
