ORIFICE PLATES
Orifices are the most popular liquid flowmeters in use today. An orifice is simply a flat piece of metal with a specific-sized hole bored in it. Most orifices are of the concentric type, but eccentric, conical (quadrant), and segmental designs are also available.
The orifice plate, used in conjunction with orifice flange unions, is the true differential producing element and its performance largely determines the accuracy of the flow measurement.
ORIFICE PLATES FOR ANSI RF FLANGES
PITCO orifice plates are designed and manufactured with the care and accuracy required for measuring devices. Particular emphasis is placed on:
- Parallelism of inlet and outlet faces;
- Surface flatness held within 0,01 inch per inch in any direction;
- Smooth ground finish of face surfaces per ANSI 42.1 n.4

ORIFICE TYPE SELECTION
- Concentric square edge orifice plates are recommended for general apllications in clean fluid with relatively high Reynolds number.
- Concentric quarter-circle orifice plates are recommended for applications when low Reynolds number values occur, that is with low rate liquid flow or highly viscous streams.
- Eccentric orifices plates are recommended for applications where the drainage of extraneous matters is required.
- Segmental orifice plates are recommended for applications where heavier or lighter components are mixed in a given fluid as in the case of two-phase flow measurement.
