Head producing primary elements are frequently used for the measurement of liquid, gas, steam or vapour flow in closed pipes. Several types and designs are available and their selection depends on the fluid nature, on the accuracy desired and on the amount of allowable pressure loss.
The orifice plate inserted between two flanges, represents the simplest and most economical means for producing a measurable differential.
